JaaS (JSON as a Service)

JaaS (JSON as a Service) in SnippKit transforms any stored JSON snippet or mock payload into a live, high-performance HTTP REST API endpoint in exactly two clicks.
Instead of setting up custom server backends or mock servers for mobile apps, frontend prototypes, or testing, JaaS serves your JSON data directly over HTTPS with global CORS support.

Overview

Mocking API backends during early development often requires configuring complex mock servers, express servers, or third-party paid services.
JaaS converts your SnippKit JSON payloads into instant REST endpoints accessible at https://snippkit.com/s/<snippet-id>/api/json. Any updates you save to your snippet sync to your live REST endpoint immediately.
Direct App Shortcut
Manage your stored JSON payloads anytime: or explore the JaaS Service Dashboard (/services/jaas).

Interactive UI Activation Demo

Below is a live interactive simulation demonstrating how to activate JaaS on any stored JSON snippet:

{
"jokes": [
{ "setup": "Why don't scientists trust atoms?", ... }
]
}

How to activate JaaS

  1. Create or Open a JSON Snippet: Save a new snippet or open an existing one with language set to json or jsonc.
  2. Open Options Menu: Click the three-dot menu icon (...) in the snippet header.
  3. Enable JSON API: Click Serve as JSON API from the dropdown menu.
  4. Copy Live URL: The modal will display your live REST endpoint URL (https://snippkit.com/s/<id>/api/json).
  5. Test GET Requests: Make HTTP GET requests directly from your browser, cURL, or frontend application.
  6. Revoke Access: To disable public API serving, open the options menu and select Disable JSON API.

Integration Code Examples

Fetch data from your live JaaS endpoint across any environment or framework:
fetch('https://snippkit.com/s/<id>/api/json')
  .then(response => response.json())
  .then(data => console.log(data))
  .catch(error => console.error('Error:', error));

Endpoint URL Formats

JaaS supports both standard unique IDs and custom user slugs:
  • Standard Endpoint: https://snippkit.com/s/6ebc80b2-9b41-43c8-be49-df6be32535e4/api/json
  • Custom Slug Endpoint: https://snippkit.com/s/mock-user-api/api/json

Security & Authentication

  • Public Snippets: Endpoint is accessible publicly with open CORS headers — ideal for frontend prototypes and open APIs.
  • Private Snippets: Pass your secret API key in the request header:
    BASH
    curl -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_your_secret_key" https://snippkit.com/s/<id>/api/json
